1944-2017
Gastonia – Geraldine "Gerri" Smith McClure, 72, passed away on June 19, 2017 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Buncombe County on July 10, 1944 to the late Charles and Maude Smith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee "Bob" McClure; her first husband, Clarence Willis, son, Michael Joseph Willis and infant son, Joey Willis.
Gerri was a wonderful mother, grandmother and sister! She was blessed to have many dear friends of whom she considered her extended family. She cherished these friendships, loved them as her family and they loved her! Gerri was born and raised in Asheville, NC. In 1972 she relocated to Gastonia, NC where she raised her family which she adored. She worked many years as a machinist in textiles and later obtaining her Medical Assisting Degree from Gaston College was quite a proud accomplishment for her! Gerri then worked in the medical field for many years. She attended Sandy Plains Baptist Church and was a beloved member of the Gastonia community. Gerri enjoyed being outside in her garden with her birds and working in her yard; this brought her tremendous joy. After the passing of her first husband, she remarried Bob McClure; they shared 26 happy and wonderful years together before his untimely death in 2001. Gerri was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her!
Survivors include daughter, Teresa Willis of Swannanoa, NC; step-daughter, Christy McClure and step-son, Kevin McClure all of Gastonia; grandson, Brandon Yoder and fiancée, Laura Marlor; step-grandson, Jesse McClure; brothers and sisters; James Smith, Louise Stewart, Calvin Smith, Bobbie Jean Clark, Carolyn Crowder, Barbara Keener, and Linda Swangim; along with several nieces and nephews
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 24th at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel.
Interment will follow at Evergreen "A Quiet Place", Belmont, NC
