Gastonia - George Lewis Lineberger Jr., 85 passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on June 17, 2017. He was born in Gaston County on December 27, 1931; George was preceded in death by his parents, George Lewis Lineberger, Sr. and Callie Bridges Lineberger, a great grandson, Benton Lewis Lineberger and his brother, Jim Lineberger.

George was a faithful member of South Point Baptist Church for almost 40 years, where he served as a deacon, RA leader, member of countless committees, faithful visitation leader, and participated in a mission trip to Uruguay.
George delighted in his children and grandchildren, and served over 20 years as a Little League baseball coach for the Triangle Optimists. A proud Eagle Scout, George also served over 20 years as a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 53.

George is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vivian Robinson Lineberger to whom he was a loving and devoted husband. He is also survived by a sister, Evelyn Rodden and her husband Frank; his children, Mickey and wife Teena Lineberger, Lewis and wife Dianne Lineberger, Vickie and husband Terry Throneburg, Dr. Ed and wife Sharon Lineberger, and Dana and husband Kevin Joyce; grandchildren, Jason Lineberger, Eric and Andrew Throneburg, Brittany and Matthew Lineberger, Cody Lineberger and Caroline and Connor Joyce, and 9 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m., Wednesday at South Point Baptist Church
A Celebration of Life service will follow at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at South Point Baptist Church, 124 Horsley Avenue, Belmont
Interment will follow at Hillcrest Gardens, Mt. Holly, NC
Pallbearers will be Jason Lineberger, Eric Throneburg, Andrew Throneburg, Matthew Lineberger, Cody Lineberger, Connor Joyce and Frank Donaldson

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the South Point Baptist Church Building Fund, 124 Horsley Avenue, Belmont, North Carolina 28012
