1932-2016

Gastonia – Edward Gene Grissom, 84, died August 6, 2016 at the Robin Johnson Hospice House.

He was born in Clover, SC on July 29, 1932 to the late George and Edith Grissom.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Reverend George Grissom and wife, Sylvia Howe Grissom; sister, Eva Jones, Brother-in-law Walter Hamilton, in-laws Earl and Veller Holloway and Fred and Hazel Holloway.

Gene was a lifelong member of Olney Presbyterian Church where he served in many capacities and was presently serving as Elder. He was also a Member of Sons of Confederacy and TPA. Gene graduated from Gastonia High School and served in US Army (1953-1955). He was previously employed in corporate accounting at Akers Motor Lines and Carolina Freight.

Gene had a great love for sports, having played softball for many years. He was a diehard Tar Heel and Atlanta Braves fan. Gene will be remembered for living a life filled with service to his church, family, and friends.

Survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathleen Holloway Grissom
sisters, Shirley Hamilton (Vernon Cahoon), Carolyn Glaze (Gene), Judy Stewart; and brother-in-law Nathan Jones. Many loyal and devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to nephews Dan and John Grissom and to the staff of Robin Johnson House.

Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Olney Presbyterian Church. Family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Olney Presbyterian Church, 251 Olney Church Road, Gastonia, NC 28056.
