Gastonia – Gaynell Helms Owens, 91, passed away on January 14, 2016 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.

Gaynell was a native of Gaston County, born December 9, 1924 to the late Estelle Tyser and Robert Lee Helms.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband of 66 years, E.W. Owens; brothers, Harry Lee Helms and Robert Lee Helms; sisters, Dot Baker and Lucille Bradley

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed greatly! Gaynell loved her family and spending time with her children, grands and great grands! She was a charter member of Lighthouse Baptist Church where she was very active for many years teaching Sunday School and Bible School. Gaynell enjoyed gardening and loved birds.

Survivors include her sons, David Owens and wife Joy of Gastonia; Marty Owens and wife Linda of Gastonia;
Grandchildren, Emily Frazier and husband Brad of Gastonia; Matthew Owens and wife Fran of Columbia, SC;
Ryan Owens, Aaron Owens and wife Ashley all of Gastonia;
great grandchildren, Emma and Jacob Owens of Columbia; SC

Celebration of Life Service will be Monday, January 18th 2:00 pm at Lighthouse Baptist Church with Reverend Nick Mintz officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Burial will follow in Gaston Memorial Park with the releasing of the doves.
