KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Gayle Smith Karagias, 51, passed away unexpectedly on May 27, 2015. She was born in Mecklenburg County on June 24, 1963.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Brenda Kay Bumgardner Smith

Gayle was a wonderful woman! A devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother that will be missed by many! She had a heart of gold and a smile that could light up any room. She had a radiant personality and a love for life like no other. She spent the last 17 years married to the love of her life, Mr. Theodore Karagias. They shared a home in Tennessee and a deep love for hunting, fishing, attending church and spending quality time with family, friends and their two dogs Trevor and Maibree. She was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Knoxville, Tenn. and Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Charlotte.
Gayle truly was a blessing to each and every person that she met and will be missed greatly!

Survivors include her loving husband Theodore "Teddy" Karagias; her father, Roy Lee Smith;
sons, Timothy Ellis Stewart, William Dean and Evan Karagias; daughters, Starr Paysour, Joyce Dean and Jennifer Karagias; brothers, Terry Lee Smith and Rick Auten; sisters, Teresa Kay Smith-Auten and Suzanne Cherie Smith-Navey; grandchildren, Maddox Cayle Stewart, Luke Karagias, Courtney Karagias, Zachary Karagias, Matthew Karagias, Chase Parker and Macy Parker; niece, Stephanie Nicholson and nephews Matthew Bumgardner, Joshua Navey and Jonathan Nicholson.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, May 31st at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will held 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 1st at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral with Reverend Father Michael Varvarelis officiating.

Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Charlotte.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Stewart, Evan Karagias, Jake Smith, Luke Karagias, Jared Tenney and William Dean.
