Gary Eugene Parsons

Gary Eugene Parsons, 87, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024 at his residence with his loving family by his side. 

He was born in Gaston County on December 22, 1936 to the late Carl and Ruby Sams Parsons. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Bolus, 2 brothers, Carl Howard Parsons, Jr and Douglas Parsons. 

Gary worked in textiles for some years but most of his working career he was a painter by profession. After retiring he enjoyed helping a friend, James Chandler, with service maintenance at some of the area’s local car washes. On weekends Gary enjoyed setting up items selling and finding great deals at local flea markets. One of Gary’s favorite pass times was watching American Pickers and Storage Wars. Gastonia won’t be the same without seeing Gary out and about. For many years Gary and Betty could be found at Drum’s Camp Ground on Lake Norman where they enjoyed spending time with family and friends. 

Those left to cherish Gary’s memories are his wife of 49 years, Betty White Parsons; his children, Gary Parsons, Jr. and Judy Heffner, Trina Hudson, Larry Barker (Jennifer), and Cheryl Barker all of Gastonia; His long-time friend, Bruce Fowler; sister-in-law, Lillie Smith; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren. 

Family and friends will gather for visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place following the visitation in the chapel at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Overton officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Gardens Cemetery.
