Maiden - Garry Dean Leonhardt, 76, passed away peacefully on November 18th at the Brian Center Lincolnton surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Catawba County on February 7, 1942 to the late Raymond and Edith Leonhardt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Leonhardt and step father, Paul Ray Bumgarner.
Garry was a graduate of Appalachian State University where he earned his Master's Degree. He taught in the Gaston County School system for 30 years at Cherryville Junior and Senior High School. Garry also taught at Gaston College for 27 years working with the GED program. He was a member of St. Matthews Reformed Church. Garry was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed!
Garry is survived by his loving wife, Janice Biggs Leonhardt; children, Wendy Pyle of Sherrills Ford, NC and Misti D. Edgell of Maiden, NC; 4 grandchildren; brother, Jackie Bumgarner of Myrtle Beach, SC;
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 26th at St. Matthews Reformed Church, 4575 Maiden Highway, Maiden, NC with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor John Barnette officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
