1952-2016
Gastonia – Fred "Freddie" Eugene Young, Jr., 64, passed away on December 31st at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Mecklenburg County to the late Fred Eugene Young Sr. and Mary Evelyn Brown Young.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Fred, Kenny and Jeffrey Young and sisters, Kim Young and Vickie Kelly
Freddie was a graduate of South Point High School and a veteran of the US Army and Navy during the Vietnam War. Freddie loved to play golf and was a devout Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees and UNC Tar Heel fan.
Left to cherish his memories include his children, Kayla Coy and husband Jeremy; Robbie Byers and wife Kimberly; brothers Jerry Young (Carol) and Jackie Young (Susan); grandchildren, Jordan Coy, Jase Byers, Harper Byers and Jaxx Coy
A Celebration of life Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Richard Boatwright officiating.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 7th prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Belmont with Military Honors provided by the North Carolina National Guard Funeral Honor Team and Gaston County Honor Guard, followed by the Releasing of the Doves Ceremony.
