Dallas- Fred 'Dub' Wilson Parker, Jr., 84, 505 North Davis Street went home to be with the Lord July 23, 2010 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Gaffney, South Carolina, born March 26, 1926 to the late Fred Wilson Parker Sr. and Belle Parker. Dub was a machinist by trade, retiring from Patterson Machine. He was a veteran of The United States Army Infantry, 43rd Division 172nd Regiment Front-line Rifleman and a member of World War II Last Man Club of Gaston County and the WWII last Man Club Horor Guard. Dub had been a member of Beech Avenue Baptist Church for over 62 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sons, Michael Fred and Tony Wayne Parker, brothers James and Eugene Parker, sisters Valerie Cook and Corrie Scruggs.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Patsy McGinnis Parker, children, Steve Smart and wife Camille of Dallas,
Barbara S. Potter of Shelby, Grandchildren Chasity S. Watson and husband Rob, Brandy Smart, Monica Parker and Brook Parker
great-grandchildren Shelby Ann Watson, Rankin Crews Watson, and Megan Parker; sisters, Maxine Nations and husband Hubert, Polly Wilkins of Spartanburg, SC, Dot Cole of Cowpens, SC
Visitation will be held Sunday night, 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home, Gastonia. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 am Monday in Beech Avenue Baptist Church with Reverend Jeff Cook officiating
Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park with Military Honors rendered by the WWII Last Man Club of Gaston County
