Gastonia- Fred Walter Overcash, 82, passed away on April 14, 2016 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.
Fred was born in Gaston County on July 5, 1933 to the late Walter Delmar and Dorothy Holliday Overcash.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Alene Holloway
Fred was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed! He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Gastonia. Fred was a Veteran of the US Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Cramerton High School and attended Evans Business School. Fred was formerly employed at Burlington Industries and later retired from Weyerhaeuser Company (Westvaco) in Gastonia.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nellie Glover Overcash and children, Anita Apple and husband Don, Terry Spencer and husband Jr., all of Gastonia; Sandy Trower and husband Mike of Davidson, NC
Grandchildren, Angela Mitchem and fiancé Nate Norris; Bryan Mitchem and fiancée, Caitlin Rouille; Jason Spencer and wife Christine; Brandon Spencer and fiancée, Chasity Patterson;
Great-grandchildren, Landon Jay Norris, Ian, Kaytlin and Madison Spencer
Sister, Carolyn Barker and husband Jack of Dallas; brother, Dan Overcash and wife Gloria of Peachland, NC
A Celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 23rd at Grace Baptist Church, 2200 Auten Road, Gastonia with Reverend David MacEachern officiating.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Interment will be private.
