Dallas- Frances Bowman Thomas, 83, 205 North College Street, went home to be with the Lord April 2, 2010, surrounded by her family. She was affectionately known to her many students and co-workers as Mrs. Thomas She was loved dearly by her children and grandchildren
She was a native of York County, born August 27, 1926 to the late Lonnie A. and Daisy Stewart Bowman. Frances was a graduate of Clover High School. She worked at Southern Bell for many years before working at Carr Elementary School for over 26 years. She was a faithful active member of Long Creek Memorial Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School secretary for 42 years. Frances was also involved in the community by participating in Book Club, Dallas Seniors, Long Creek Seniors, Carr School retirees and was a special friend to many. Her 'cheesey' cheese straws are enjoyed by friends and families at weddings, parties Christmas and other special occasions.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 51 years, Max Alton Thomas; Brother, Edward Bowman and sisters, Blanche Moses and Virginia Stone
Survivors include her children: Max Thomas, Jr. of Hickory, NC;
Joseph 'Joe' Thomas of Hempstad, TX;
Scott Thomas and wife Jeanette of Ft. Collins, CO.;
Jim Thomas and wife Betsy of Cherryville, NC
Grandchildren: Jamie Michelle Richardson, Keith Thomas, Lindsey Thomas, Ashley Roth and husband B.J.
Great Grandchildren: Xavier Duke and Audrey Frances Richardson
Sister: Tee Withers of Dallas;
Brothers: Sam Bowman and wife Josie of Clover, SC; Jim Bowman and wife Dora of Rock Hill, SC; L.A. Bowman, Jr. and wife Sylvia of Columbia, SC and her dear special friend Dean Clemmer
Several nieces and nephews, special nieces Carla Blanton and Leslie Miller
Funeral service will be 3:00 pm, Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Long Creek Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Shaw officiating
Family will receive friends 2:00-3:00 pm prior to the service
Interment will follow in the church cemetery
Pallbearers will be Max A Thomas, Joseph B. Thomas, Scott E. Thomas, James M. Thomas, J. Keith Thomas, Scott Miller and Daniel Moses
