Gastonia ' Frances Hartsell 86 of Gastonia passed away October 7, 2012
She was a native of Gaston County, born September 18, 1926 to the late Loyd and Rosa Lillian Cox Black.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 63 years, Richard Blair Hartsell who died in 2005, a son Dwight Richard Hartsell, and two sisters, Viola B. Walker and Margaret B. Jordan. She was very close to her sisters.
Frances was a charter member of Myers Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Circle and Sunday School Teacher., and was a member of the Builders Sunday School Class.
She was the 6th member to join St. Johns United Methodist Church which is Myers Memorial now.
Frances was retired from Southern Bell with over 34 years of service before retiring in 1983.She was a member of the Southern Bell Pioneers. She loved to travel and had been in every state except Hawaii. After retiring she later worked with United Way. She was a caregiver for all of her family.
Survivors include her daughter Suzanne Hartsell Whitaker; a granddaughter Amanda Blair Whitaker a special nephew, Richard Jordan and wife Sandra and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Saturday at Myers Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Clyde Penry officiating.
The family will receive friends 1 hr prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery with the Releasing of the Doves.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Peninger, Kenneth Avery, David Ryan Ballard, Brad Austin, Reece Hudspeth, and Richard Rayne.
