1929-2017
Gastonia – Forest Carmie Garver, 87 of Charlotte formerly of Gastonia passed away peacefully February 24, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at Brookdale New Hope Assisted Living.
Forest was a native of Gaston County, born December 18, 1929 to the late Reverend C.V. Garver and Laura Norman Garver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 64 years, Barbara Dettmar Garver, daughter, Barbara Elaine Garver; sisters, Claire Cross and Jeanette Garver and a brother Alvin Garver.
Forest was an active member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Gastonia. He and his wife stayed on the go, often visiting friends and church members and going to Gospel singings every weekend. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather; his family was very special to him. Forest loved to travel the East coast from Florida to Maine. Forest worked for Akers Motor Line for over 20 years and later retired from Yellow Freight, Charlotte. He was co-founder of United Bus Lines.
He is survived by his loving family, sons, Roger Garver and wife Becky, Randy Garver and wife Sara all of Gastonia; granddaughter, Danielle G Howard and husband Brad of Lexington, SC; great-grandsons, Austin and Carson Howard; four step grandchildren, Rocky Owenby, Robin Mims, Jesse Knight, Daniel Knight; eight step great-grandchildren, seven step great-great grandchildren,; sisters Faye Grubbs and Merle Bates.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 pm Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 3:00 pm with Reverend Terry Gibson officiating.
Interment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery with the Releasing of the Doves.
