Ernest E. Cox

GASTONIA - Mr. Ernest Edward Cox, 77, of 402 N. Magnolia St., died April 19, 2009, at his residence. He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late Arnie and Maggie Brannon Cox. He retired from Westvaco Company. Mr. Cox was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 48 years, Alene Weaver Cox; brothers, James and William Cox; sisters, Edith Tilton and Ruth Lane. Survivors include his sons, Edward and wife Deborah Cox of Lake Wylie, S.C., Scottie Cox and Rhonda Currant of Gastonia; Larry Cox of Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren, Michael Cox and Courtney English. Funeral service will be noon Wednesday, April 22 at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marshall Parker officiating. Family will receive friends one hour before the service. Burial will be follow at Gaston Memorial Park with Military Honors by the Gaston County World War II Last Man Club.
