Gastonia –Doris Jean Simmons Mincey, 83 passed away peacefully on November 24, 2017 at the Robin Johnson House with her loving family by her side.
She was born at the City Hospital, Gastonia on June 9, 1934 to the late Betty Eulala Dameron Simmons Enloe and Ned Russell Simmons. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Minnie Dameron, Rhett Dameron, Nora Holder Simmons Armstrong and Robert Lee Simmons and a brother, Donald Joe Simmons
Doris worked at Maxwell Brothers Furniture, Cato's Dress Shop, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., Wix Corp., Del Mar/Liken, Inc. Shades II Inc., Kiser Inc. Smith Textile Apron Co., Inc before retiring.
Doris was MOST PROUD of her family!! Her life was her children and grandchildren… She enjoyed singing, playing the piano and reading the Bible. Doris was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed!
Left to cherish her memories includes her loving husband of 65 years, Jimmie Lee Mincey;
Her children, Carla Peoples (Robert), Lee Mincey (Rhonda) and Russ Mincey (Amy);
grandchildren, Alison Davis (Chuck), Natalie Jacobs (Rob), Lance Hargett, Nicole Hargett, Peyton Mincey, Ellen Mincey and Luke Mincey; great grandchildren, Jarrod Alston, Logan Alston, Gage Alston, Carly Davis, Kyle Davis, Alexis Chaney, Madison Lambert, Rylan Hargett, Kaedyn Jacobs, R J Jacobs and A J Jacobs; step children Robbie Peoples, Sheldon Peoples, Jamie Hill and David Herlong
and God Sons, John Edward Brooks and Will Kiser
Private Interment will be at Hollywood Cemetery with the releasing of the doves.
