Cherryville – On May 6, David Blair McMahan, 71, "slipped into the nearer presence of Jesus," from whom he awaits the promised resurrection to continue his life on earth with a body restored to wholeness. David was a well-respected and dearly loved pastor of more than 35 years who "fought the good fight, finished the race, kept the faith." David's life demonstrated a desire to "glorify God and enjoy Him forever" by proclaiming His Word and ministering in prayer and deed. He relentlessly pursued the truth of God. He also loved spending time with his two granddaughters, taking road trips, and watching the Tennessee Vols football team. He was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church. He was a native of Knoxville, TN, born February15, 1942 to the late Glen C. Sr. and Mary Moody McMahan.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years Ardrue McMahan, son Paul McMahan of Gastonia and daughter Carol Leonard and husband Justin of Statesville, brother Glen McMahan, Jr. and wife Kathy, grandchildren Grace Mary Leonard and Lydia Ruth Leonard.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Saturday at Parkwood Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Long officiating.
The family will receive friends 5:00 – 8:00 pm Friday at Parkwood Baptist Church.
Interment will be in Saint Marks Lutheran Church Cemetery, Cherryville, NC.
