Cyrus Lee Blakney, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away on October 21, 2023, at his residence in Stanley, North Carolina. He was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on July 3, 2012, and was only eleven years old at the time of his untimely departure.
Cyrus, affectionately known as Baby Dude to those who held him closest, was a wonderful, bright, and charismatic young boy. Although his time with us was short, he brought joy with his goofy sense of humor, bright smile and caring nature, leaving an everlasting impact on the hearts of those he encountered. While we grieve his loss, let us also celebrate the life that he lived and honor his memory by cherishing the moments we spent together.
A bright soul from an early age, he approached life with enthusiasm and a deep love for his family and friends. He attended Catawba Heights Baptist Church where he found solace and guidance. It was there that he dedicated himself to the Lord on Easter of 2023. His unwavering faith brought comfort not only to himself but also to those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Cyrus enjoyed the time he spent with his sister and mother while being homeschooled. This unique learning experience allowed him to develop a strong sense of independence and a passion for knowledge. He approached every subject with curiosity and eagerness to learn.
He enjoyed riding his bike and motorcycle, playing ball with his dogs, Nala and Lily, playing Gaga ball and foursquare with his best friends. He and his twin sister, Piper, were members of the Gaston Gators Swim Team, where he made many achievements. When not in the water, Cyrus could be found singing, dancing and playing piano, which not only brought him great joy, but put a smile on the face of those around him.
Family was at the center of Cyrus' world—a world he cherished greatly. Spending time with his loved ones brought him immense joy and fulfillment. Whether it was sharing laughs during gatherings or silent moments of comfort in each other's company, Cyrus embraced these timeless memories with an open heart.
Cyrus leaves behind his grieving mother, Racheal Lucretia Blakney; his adored twin sister Piper Blakney; brother Jared Blakney; doting grandparents, Edward Blakney, Roger Leroy Hamann (Connie) and great grandmother, Joanne Hamann; beloved aunts and uncles, Amanda Bellmore (Samuel) and their daughter Emmalin, Rebecca Lori Eckes (James) and their children, Jaidyn, Kimber, Mason and Logan; and Ryan Hamann (Lindsey) and their children. The love Cyrus shared with them will forever be cherished in their hearts as they navigate this difficult time. Though Piper and Cyrus are now apart physically, their connection remains as strong as ever in the hearts of those who loved them both.
Cyrus was preceded in death by both of his grandmothers. Cyrus was particularly close to his paternal grandmother, Sandra Blakney, who gave him a lifelong love of Mickey Mouse. Together, they shared a special bond woven through love and cherished memories. Cyrus’ maternal grandmother, Denise Lucretia Pigott, passed away shortly before he was born. Although she did not get to welcome Cyrus into this lifetime, it is a comforting thought that she was there to guide him into the next with open arms.
A memorial service will be held 3:00PM, Thursday, November 2nd, at Catawba Heights Baptist Church, 311 Belmont Mount Holly Road, Belmont, NC 28012 to remember and pay tribute to Cyrus Lee Blakney.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Cyrus' name to the
