Colleen Lanning Lewis, 87, of Fruitland passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Thursday, January 11, 2018.
She was born September 10, 1930 in Henderson County to the late Plato Lee Lanning and Nellie Henderson Lanning. Colleen married Walter Thomas Lewis on June 28, 1946.
She was retired from Ruth Originals and Young Generations. She was a talented seamstress, who designed and made sample dresses that were showcased in New York design shows. She will be remembered by those who loved her for her love for cooking and all the family meals she prepared with love. She was a survivor of cervical cancer for 48 years. She was a member of Fletcher First Baptist Church and she was a devout Christian. Colleen was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Tom Lewis and brothers Horace Lanning and Virgil Lanning. She lived her entire life on her family farm in Fruitland except for the last three years when she could no longer take care of herself and resided with her daughter Patricia Lewis Trotter and her husband Gary of Gastonia. She is also survived by her other two daughters, Brenda Lewis Lisenbee and her husband, Norman, of Arden, and Terry Lewis Smith and her husband, Ed, of Lexington SC, as well as 5 grandchildren, Tammy Youngblood (David), Chuck Lisenbee, Sean Nix (Amalia), Aaron Lisenbee (Amber) and Austin Trotter (Emily); 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild.
Celebration of Life will be Saturday, January 13th at 1:00 pm at Fletcher First Baptist in Fletcher, NC. The Family will receive family and friends 30 minutes prior to service. Interment will immediately follow at Lanning-Pittillo Cemetery in Fruitland.
