CLARA GARVER CROSS
1921-2015
Gastonia – Clara Garver Cross, 94, entered into her Heavenly Home on September 28, 2015 at her daughter's residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Cleveland County on July 22, 1921 to the late Reverend C.V. and Mrs. Laura Norman Garver
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Howard Alton Cross and sister, Janette and brother, Alvin
Clara was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family! She retired from Burlington Industries. Clara was a charter member of Garver Memorial Baptist Church. She loved her church and was very active for many years, where she served as Sunday School Secretary for 40 + years; enjoyed singing in the choir and always looked forward to the preparations for the Homecoming Service that she attended this year. Christmas was always a special time for Clara; she loved making candy, everyone looked forward to her special recipe of Fudge and Peanut Butter Balls! Clara enjoyed working word puzzles and working in the yard for many years. She enjoyed traveling on her "trips" from Myrtle Beach to Florida for vacations. She loved pets, especially her children's pets.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy Sauer of Gastonia; son, Mick Cross (Paula) of Jetersville, VA;
brother, Forest Garver; sisters, Faye Grubbs and Myrtle Bates of Gastonia
5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren
The family will be receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 30th at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home
A Celebration of life service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, October 1st at Garver Memorial Baptist Church with Reverend David Stewart officiating.
Interment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery with the releasing of the doves
