Gastonia-
Charlie Ray Dixon, 88, of 1010 Neal Hawkins Road, passed away May 24, 2010 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Gaston County, born September 24, 1921 to the late Campbell Stacey and Lula Falls Dixon.
He was owner of Dixon Auto Supply of Gastonia for many years and a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church, Gastonia. His hobbies included Gardening, Gospel Music, square dancing, and 'calling' square dancing. Charlie served on the USS BUSH in the South Pacific in World War II. He participated in most of the major navel battles there, until his ship was sunk near Okinawa. He was rescued after 13 hours in the sea.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Margaret Sue Hoke Dixon,
Brothers, George Thomas Dixon, Henry Falls Dixon, Stacey Dixon
Survivors include his sons, Ron Dixon and wife Gilda,
Scott Dixon and wife Tammy all of Gastonia,
Grandchildren, Sean Dixon and wife Kim, Anna Dixon and her companion Daniel Lindberg all of Gastonia
Great-grandchildren, Amanda Dixon, Jennifer Dixon, Jordyn Davis, and Mya Davis all of Gastonia,
sister, Laura Elizabeth Richie of Raleigh, NC.
The Dixon family will receive friends 10:00-11:00 am Thursday at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Olney Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Reverend Patricia Bivens officiating.
