C.V. Childers

Gastonia-Charles Vance Childers, Sr., 75 of Gastonia passed away peacefully February 16, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was a native of Buncombe County, born March 21, 1936 to the late Rev.Albert Vance and Cleta Mae Jennings Childers
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers David and Richard Childers. He was a graduate of Lee University, and retired from Durham Life Insurance Company.
'C.V.', as he was known by so many, was a charter member of Maranatha Temple Church of God where he was very active in serving the Lord. He had a passion for children, and played Santa Claus for many years; he enjoyed serving God and helping people, orphans and widows. C.V. loved singing with the Childers Family Gospel Group, and was a huge Carolina Tarheel fan. One of his most prized possessions however, was his beloved dog Molly. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #369
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Shirley Leonard Childers; his children Charles Vance Childers, Jr. and wife Terrie M. of Shelby

His grandchildren Candi Mullinax and husband Michael, Jeremiah Childers and wife Amber, Joshua Childrers and wife Kimberly, and Nicholas Brown; great grandchildren Dalton and Clinton Wells, Sladen Mullinax;
Sisters Patsy Dowell and husband Ronald, Peggy Dowell all of Gastonia
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 pm prior to the service
Celebration of Life service will be at 2:00pm Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Maranatha Temple Church of God, 2435 Redbud Drive, Gastonia with Rev. Joe Leonard, Rev. Troy Burrell, Rev. Jeremy Burrell, Rev. James Young and Rev. Jeremiah Childers officiating.
Inurnment will follow at Olney Presbyterian Cemetery with the releasing of the doves
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565
