Bryson Welch

September 28, 1935 — January 26, 2021

Bryson Welch, Sr.
1935-2021

Bryson Welch, Sr., 85, entered his Heavenly Home on Tuesday, January 26, 2021. As he passed his loving family was by his side. He is reunited with his wife of 62 years, Mary Catherine Lane Welch, who preceded him in death in 2017.

Bryson was born in Gaston County on September 28, 1935 and was the son of the late James Coy and Bessie Smith Welch. Bryson was a graduate of Gastonia High School. He worked at Adam's and Pacemaker stores; owned/operated Davis Park Shell Service Station/Wrecker Service; and he finally retired as a Sales Manager of McKenney Chevrolet in 2002. After retirement he worked for many years with Motorcycle Safety at Gaston College and anything else to stay busy. He was a hardworking man of integrity and honor, and always dressed to the nines.

He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, with perfect Sunday School attendance for over four decades. He served as a Deacon, Trustee, Finance Chairman, longtime Bus Driver, sound technician, director of the group Calvary's Love, choir director for the Senior Citizens and member of the "Young at Heart" Club.

He lived by and shared the phrase "better to be a whole lot early than a little bit late". Instead of "You're kidding me" he always said "Hello Darl'n"

He was the most loving Father, and never failed to say I love you. He was an amateur/expert woodworker, a hi-speed John Deere grass cutter, and a master at tinkering.

Bryson is survived by his daughter, Kathy Welch Glover (Billy); two sons, Phillip Welch, Jr. (Cindy), and Sam Welch(Kristy); six grandchildren: Jordan Paris, Casey Welch Brodbeck (Daniel), Hannah Welch Sanii (Vahid), Katie Welch, Jake Welch, Maddie Welch; four great grandchildren: Ava Paris, Gray Sanii, Georgia Brodbeck, Ben Sanii; numerous nieces and nephews; and his spoiled Pomeranian, Lucy.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Bryson was preceded in death by four sisters: Mae Grindle, Evalee Cobb, Dot Faulkner, Foy Jean Bernard; two brothers: J. W. Welch, Earl Welch; and his niece who was like a daughter, Linda Lane.

There will be no visitation due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Bryson will lie in state at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Family Will Not Be Present.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church 3001 York Hwy, Gastonia with Pastor Josh Glandon officiating. Masks and Social Distancing are Required.

Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park. The family will speak to family and friends following the graveside service.
