DALLAS - Bobby Edward Miller, Sr., 73 of 1404 Old Spencer Mtn. Rd. went home to be with the Lord on June 8, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was born on July 25, 1936, in Harrisburg to the late Rev. Harold D. Miller, Sr. and Margaret Gray West. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Harold D. Miller, Jr.
He was a former member of Gospel Baptist Church and was a current member of Independent Baptist Tabernacle of Dallas where he served as a faithful deacon for more than 30 years.
For 35 years he worked as a trailer shop mechanic for Akers Motor Lines and Carolina Freight from which he retired in 1992.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Irene Shires Miller of the home. Children: Bobby Miller, Jr. of Gastonia, Linda Miller of Bessemer City, Robin Bass and husband Gary of Lincolnton, Christy Martin and husband Lewis Sr., of Bessemer City, Samantha Self-Alvizar and husband Alex of Lincolnton, a special friend who was like a daughter Jennifer Waldroop and husband Kevin of Bessemer City. Seven grandchildren: Stephen Miller, April Miller, Justin Bass, Jordan Self, Eric and Jessalyn Alvizar and Lewis Martin, Jr. Three sisters: Ann Stiles of Mooresville, Betsy Henderson of Kings Mtn., and Sue Miller of New Jersey. One brother-in-law: Rev. Donald Shires and wife Dorothy of Jackson, SC.
The family will receive friends Friday, June 11th, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Independent Baptist Tabernacle, 2128 Dallas-Cherryville Hwy., Dallas, NC.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 12th at 2:00 pm at Independent Baptist Tabernacle with Rev. Ralph Carver, Rev. Donald Shires, and Rev. Ronnie Starr officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be the Deacons of the church.
