1924 - 2018

Gastonia – Bernard (Bo) Joy, 94 – formerly of Belmont died on Thursday, April 5, 2018, one day after his 94th birthday.

He was born in Greenwood, SC on April 4, 1924 to the late Olin R. and Mattie Peters Joy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Janice Yount Joy; other family members preceding Bo in death are his in-laws, Charlie and Katie Yount; brother-in-law, Bobby Brown and nephew, Dr. Brian Brown.

Bo grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, then later moving back to the Gaston County area. After graduating high school, Bo joined the US Army where he served in the Korean conflict. He retired from Eastern Airlines after many years with the company.

Bo was a devoted member of South Point Baptist Church. A prolific poet, he wrote poems about God, religion, life and love. Wanting to "share the Joy", he often found time to joke and cheer others up.
