Charlotte - Barry Carter, 57, crossed over the rainbow bridge to see his many furry friends, Thursday, August 23, 2018.
He leaves behind many family & friends including his Ex wife Erin, Son Travis, Granddaughter Eryn Elizabeth (Lizzy), Grandson Jamison Russell, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, & cousins, Sister, Tammy Olive (Dave), Nieces Amber & Emily, Great Nephew Julian, Step father Butch Steines, His shipmate brother Matthew Kunze, wife Alex, Special Friend Tanya Hill, his work family at Coca Cola, his many friends at CMACC, many in the dog rescue community and his fellow Lost Nationites.
He was born in Ft Campbell, KY. To Jack Carter & Rita (Mohr) Carter-Steines. He was raised in Lost Nation, IA. Graduated in 1979 with a class of 21, from Lost Nation. He was an avid "Iowa" fan. He joined the Navy in 1979. During his 22 year career he was on many deployments all over the world. Stationed in Norfolk, VA for his entire career. He served during Desert Shield / Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf. He was very proud of his many MEDALS & awards. He retired as Senior Chief. Then moved to Charlotte, NC in 2000. Where he was employed at Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated until his death.
In his free time he was heavily involved in many areas of dog rescue. Including fostering, transporting, fence building, spay neuter clinics, & adopting. He did all he could to give each dog every opportunity to find safe & loving homes.
Further arrangements are being planned to have Barry's remains forever placed in Arlington National Cemetary. This will take some time; Those details will be shared when available.
He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
The family would like you and your dog(s) to help celebrate his life by reminiscing and sharing your favorite stories, on Friday, August, 31st 12-7pm @ McDowell Park, Charlotte, NC at the McDowell pavilion. Fruit & water provided, casual dress, if wanted, bring your blankets & camp chairs to relax. A Memorial is being planned for family and friends in the Lost Nation area at a later date.
