1933-2014

Gastonia- Barbara Naomi Dettmar Garver, 81of Charlotte formerly of Gastonia passed away peacefully March 4, 2014 surrounded by her loving family at Robin Johnson House.

Barbara was a native of Gaston County, born January 17, 1933 to the late Clyde and Viola Smith Dettmar
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Barbara Elaine Garver and a sister Mildred Stuart
Barbara was an active member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Gastonia. She and her husband stayed on the go, often visiting friends and church members and going to Gospel singings every weekend. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother; her family was very special to her. She and Forest loved to travel the East coast from Florida to Maine. Barbara worked for a little while as Manager of Cato's, Charlotte.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Forest C Garver;
her sons Roger Garver and wife Becky, Randy Garver and wife Sara all of Gastonia;
a granddaughter Danielle G Howard and husband Brad of Lexington, SC;
great grandsons, Austin and Carson Howard; Four step grandchildren Rocky Owenby, Robin Mims
Jesse Knight, Daniel Knight Eight step great grandchildren, seven step great great grandchildren
a brother Steve Dettmar and a sister Audrey Doby. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00pm Friday, March 7, 2014 at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and other times at the son Randy's home 2418 Sandlewood Drive, Gastonia
Celebration of Life service will be 2:00pm Saturday, March 8th at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with Reverends Tom Lavin and Terry Gibson officiating.

Interment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery with the Releasing of the Doves
