Newland – Anthony "Tony" Ross Monroe, 54, passed away peacefully at his residence.
He was born in Gaston County on December 27, 1959 to Ann Norman Costner and the late Jackson Eugene Costner.
Tony attended Hunter Huss High School and graduated from Gaston College. He was a US Navy Veteran.
He is preceded in death by his father; stepfather, Jay Costner, his maternal grandparents, Johnny and Jessie Norman, paternal grandparents, Charles and Daisy Monroe; Aunt, Ruth Norman Wilhelm; Uncles, James, Andy and Melvin Norman; Jim, Frank and Jerry Monroe.
He is survived by his mother, Ann Norman Costner; former wife, Syvana Crosby; Sisters, Lisa Costner O'Neill and husband John; Kimberly Costner Robinson and husband Greg; Molly Beth Costner; Nieces, Hannah O'Neill and Lillie O'Neill; Nephew, Matthew Robinson; Uncles, Gene Norman and wife, Sallie; Eddie Norman and wife, Sissy and numerous cousins.
A Memorial Service will be Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home with Rev. David Belle Isle officiating. Military honors will be provided by Gaston County Honor Guard. Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the Memorial Service.
Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
