Gastonia – Andrew Clay Plyler, 81, passed away September 12, 2015 at his residence.

Clay was born in Lancaster, SC on July 24, 1934 to the late Samuel Broadus and Ezzie Bell Vaughn Plyler.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers; Gene and Mack Plyler; sister; Mildred Vincent.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed greatly. Clay served in the US Army, where he was an E-4 Specialist at Camp Casey in South Korea, 2nd Infantry Regiment in Ft. Jackson, SC. He received the medal of Good Conduct and was honorably discharged on November 30, 1962. Clay retired from Firestone Textiles where he was a section supervisor. He was an avid fisherman and loved hunting, gardening where he was great at grafting trees and plants. He was good with using his hands, he could build or repair anything he set his mind too! Clay spent many years in carpentry and wood working. He enjoyed attending craft shows with his wife and together they owned and operated CB Crafts and "The Stichin Shoppe" and Crafts Unlimited. He had a great love for Krispy Crème Donuts!

Survivors include wife of 42 years Barbara Moore Plyler; sons, Edward Sullivan, Larry Sullivan, Terry Sullivan, Gerald Thorpe, Randy Plyler and Tracy Plyler; daughters Debbie Thorpe, Debbie Kelly and Patricia Plyler; brother, Clyde Plyler and sister, Nancy Hunter; twenty-one grandchildren and forty-two great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at Robinson Memorial Presbyterian Church, September 16, 2015 at 1:30 pm with Reverend John Pea officiating.

Visitation will be thirty minutes before service.
Military honors will be by Gaston County Honor Guard.

Interment will be private
