Allen Sigmon
1944 - 2017
Maiden - George Allen Sigmon, 73 of Maiden, North Carolina passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Sherrills Ford. He was born January 23, 1944 in Newton, North Carolina to the late George Archibald Sigmon and Alliene Bumgarner Sigmon.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, of 45 years, Gail Bolick Sigmon. His two sisters Genevette Sigmon Grimstead and her husband Rev. Thad Grimstead and Carolyn Sigmon Thomas and her husband James Robert Thomas; as well as several other family members. Mr. Sigmon was a graduate of Maiden High School and Lees-McRee College. After college, Mr. Sigmon enlisted in the United States Air force where he held the title of Sergeant. Mr. Sigmon left the Air Force and entered the work force. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Labor after thirty plus years. During this time, he received several awards and helped numerous students obtain and complete apprenticeships. Mr. Sigmon was a long-time member of St. Martins Lutheran Church and the Masonic Lodge # 592 in Maiden. Also, Mr. Sigmon was an avid Maiden Football fan and assisted on the side lines every Friday night for 40 plus years. He also enjoyed golf, fishing and family. He was a long-time member of Glenn Oaks Golf Course.
Those left to cherish his memory are two daughters Angela Sigmon Little and husband Byron Little of Maiden, and April Dawn Sigmon and significant other William Barlow of Maiden. Three grandchildren, Robert Alexander Drobinski, Cassandra Marie Drobinski, and Makayla Dee Little of Maiden; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Extended family members Ashley Small Ramsey and husband Carlos Lee Ramsey and their children Blake Ramsey, Taylor Ramsey and Landon Moss all of Newton. As well as numerous friends he considered family.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m., at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, 214 West Main Street, Maiden, North Carolina. The service will be held immediately after the visitation at 1:30 p.m., at St. Martin's Lutheran Church. The burial will follow at St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery, 1942 St. James Church Road, Newton, NC.
